Wednesday 26th November

The first image is a draft of the first page for my double page spread. I used an image that I took on my 1st photo shoot to represent some kind of style and positioning for where my model will be. I also tried another picture to see which one looked best. I found that the first image catches your eye much better. Also with the article writing, I experimented by going on to pages and saving the text as a PDF then screen grabbing it so that the text was in a column instead of jagged. I feel that this looks a bit boring though and I will have to experiment with the background more.

Begining of DoublePageSpread

The background will be a picture from my final photo shoot. I am going to look through my previous photo shoot for a photo position for the page so then therefore when I do my final photo shoot.

Tuesday 25th November

The past few days I have been continuing to improve and change my editors page. I have taken all research into account and will hopefully come up with a final page.
I have also begun my double page spread on Eve, Stacey McGowan. Because I have begun these pages I have come across some things that I would like to make common in my magazine. For example, the title of an article is going to be Gas, grey or black and with stroke - Size, 6px/Position, Outside/Blend Mode, Normal/Opacity, 47% and the colour of the boarder.
This is my 4th draft for my Editors Page. I have taken into account the feedback I received. I have experimented with colour to make the the title more eye catching. I have also make the writing more chatty and a lot less formal. I decided that I didn't like the way the other people involved in the magazine was introduced. So, therefore I made it a bit more simple with just the name down the side. I also made the editors name and the rest embossed to make it more appealing. I also cannot complete this page until I have created an advert.
In my spare time I have come up with drafts for the first 30 pages of my magazine...
Pages:
1. advert 2. editors notes 3. advert 4. contents 5. advert 6. advert 7. 8. 9. chart hits 10&11&12. eve article 13. advert 14&15&16. concert 17&18. charity article 19. advert 20&21&22&23&24&25. girl band article 26. big picture of girl band 27. advert 28. advert 29. christmas gifts 30. picture of a christmas lounge

Thursday 20th November

This is my 3rd draft. I have made the note box larger to cover more space and to make it a sort of central image. I have then added an exsisting advert from 'Gallary Magazine' to fill the gap for now. I will have my own advert after Christmas. I have then put 4 pictures on the left hand side to represent other people that are involved in the magazine. I feel that it looked quite interesting with the titles of the person down the side of the image. I have also made some of the words larger in the text to draw the readers attention.
However, I'm not too sure if I like this draft as it gives off an immature vibe. However, I am going to continue to improve it to get the best feeling.
I am going to get feedback off students between 15-19 years old to see how they see the page in their eyes.

Amy, 17: I really like it! the presentation is good and i like the fact the font is a style of hand writing and that it looks like a letter. Also, the aim of the month is great because it will keep readers wanting more. Its nice how it starts with negative points but then goes on to create the negative points to positive ones because it puts the reader in high spirits. the layout and advert works well and looks realistic and the way you have introduced the other colleages. it doesn't look boring and immature, its looks fun and entertaining and straight away attracts the right kind of audience.
Courtney, 16: I like the writing for the note. Its an interesting layout and attracts the readers. However, maybe the title could be bolder or a different colour to draw the readers in. Also, it could be good if you tested with different colour schemes,to see what works best. I like they way you introduced other people that work on the magazine so that the reader knows who else is involved and not thinking its just 1 person. I also like the idea of the boarders having different colours for different areas.
Jade, 15: It is great because it looks really realistic and really draws me into the magazine because of the interesting layout. It gives a good feeling about the magazine and sets up good standards. It has a constant spirit to it and focuses on new musicans and local artists rather than focusing on high fly fashion celeberitys. However, maybe you could make the note a little more informal.
Cameron, 16: Its a great layout and I really like the note writing. I think it could do with a bit more colour.
Need 18 and 19 yr old plus 15-19 yr old boys.
Therefore; I need to look at...
Experimenting with different colour schemes.
The language, if it relates to my target audience.

Wednesday 19th November

I am going to post a couple of my stages of my editors page.
Heres stage two...
I changed the note box to a similar colour to a piece of paper, like a note pad. I used a mild peachy colour.  Then I thought it would be better to use a font that looks like hand writing to empahise the fact it is a note from the editor. Therefore, I have used Handwriting - Dakota instead of Copperplate.
I also tried out Prince Town LET, however. the font didn't look right with so much text.

I have also finished my article for my main artist, Eve and will begin my layout drafts on Photoshop soon.

Tuesday 18th November

This is one of my 1st drafts for my editors page. This is just a basic draft of how the layouts will be.

Currently I am writing my article at home so therefore I am able to do Photoshop and layouts at school. I have finished the questions, I just need to do the interview now.

Sunday 16th November

I have now collected the majority of the clothes for my photo shoot for Eve, Stacey McGowan. The last outfit is going to be Stacey's christmas ball dress.

Also, over the weekend I have begun my article on Eve. I have wrote the introduction to her and the article. I also have wrote a draft for one of my extra pages, the editors page. Soon I will be able to have a final draft for my layout.
I like this sort of style for my interview... The Questions bold and the answers normal text.

This is the kind of presentation I would like for my interview. I have used 4 column grid system.

Extra Pages

While I have been researching ways of representing my interview, I have come across some ideas that would be great for my extra pages. Such as; an editors page - where the editor (me) would write to the readers about the magazine in an informal way. I would use the 4 column grid system and have the note on the right hand side covering 3 colums and maybe a couple of pictures on the left, then at the bottom a advert. It would also be good if there was a picture of the editor (me) in a square at the begining of the note.
Also, a girl group of 5 named '5th Avenue' with style tips. I am going to use my friends; Courtney, Poppy, Jaz, Amy and Jess, as all of these girls are very stylish and I feel they would look good together as a group. As my magazine colour theme is basic, like black and white, I would have them all in Little Black Dresses with a white background. I thought it would be interesting to have them all sat on different stalls close together as it is different and have different levels, which would make it much more eye catching. It would be good to get action shots of them laughing, which show the audience that they are a tight clic girl band. I would then have a page per girl with a picture of them on their own with their style tips.
Also, adverts such as; perfume adverts, chocolate adverts and shop adverts.

Thursday 13th November

For my layout of representing my interview, I am planning on having an introductory paragraph about 'Eve' and why the interview was arranged on a page with a main image of her. Then on the opposite page, the 4 column grid system with the interview. The questions for 'Eve' to answer will be in bold and the answers by 'Eve' will be in normal writing. It will be very informal. I would also like quotes from the interview in much larger writing inbetween text.
Similar to this ...

On the right hand side I would like the 4 column to be used as a timeline of pictures of 'Eve'.

Thursday 13th November

I have decided on an interview for my article.
Therefore, this lesson I am going to be looking at articles in existing texts to see how they present their interview. I am also going to note down questions that I feel could be appropriate for my interview with Stacey, 'Eve'.

Here are some examples from existing texts that I like...

I have also have a final draft of my layout presentation...

Wednesday 12th September

I am now starting to think about the style of the writing for my magazine name. It needs to be young, and fresh with character. The title is going to be black. My original thought was to use Graffiti, however, after researching more into it I think the outcome will be very different.

Zapfino - I like this style of writing, its bring the old to the new. However, I don't think this would work for the style of the magazine name as I feel the mast head has to be much bolder.
Synchro LET - I really like this font, its looks good and I think would work well with my style. Gas - This font is similar to Synchro LET but more dots and bolder. I really like this and am sure that I was consider this as my mast head.
Soft Sugar Plain - This font reminds me off felt tip pen, even though I like this font, I don't think it work as well as other fonts. However, it could work if my magazine genre was art.
School Houseprinted A - I really like this font, its very different and reminds me of a music piece's stats.
Prince Town LET - This font is bold, simple and in your face, this is what I am aiming for. However, I find this font style more like 'High School Musical', too comical.
PortagolTC TT - This font is very in your face and I feel that its a style that would be remembered. However, it seems slightly gothic to me, which isn't the style I am looking for.
Painty Paint - I love this font, its funky and could be very memorable for the reader. However, it has very similar style to Soft Sugar Plain, very arty.
Handwriting - Dakota - This font screams out to me; fun, life .. NOISE. I love this font! However, I feel it is not very bold, and wouldn't be noticed very well.
Graffiti - This font style is very fun and young. Hence, the name 'Graffiti', its young and fresh. Its the new art this decade, and I feel this would be a great font for my 'new' magazine. However, the font doesn't reflect my style of the magazine very well. But I could have it to contrast the plain, black and white approach.

Distortia - This font is very bold and I feel could be an unforgettable style as it is very in your face. However, I feel that it seems to be more gothic and terror. This could be used if I was doing a Rock/Gothic/Emo genre magazine, however, I am not. Therefore I don't think it is very appropriate for my magazine mast heading even though I am keen.

Copperplate - I really like this lettering because it is all capitals except with a larger capital for the first letter. It looks very classy and grand, this could make my magazine much superior to my original design. However, I don't think it is a style which many young people would look at and love it.
Academy Engraved LET - I like the way there is parts of the letters where you can see the background, as then I could have an image behind the mast heading yet still the heading is clear and bold. I feel that the font could be bolder, however even if the font was grander I don't think this would catch my audiences eye as it seems very old fashioned.

After contemplating the good and bad parts of each text, I have finally come to the decision of which font I am going to use for my mast heading and sub heading. I feel that my decision represented my aim well, which was classy and fun.

Mind Map

After researching ideas and different synonyms of words to do with music and that inspired me. However, my magazine name needs to be catchy and simple because this relates to my magazine house style. I feel that the Torrid Sounds and Extreme Music are very interesting magazine names, however, I would prefer to use one word because they are more memorable. That leaves me with names such as; Intense, Noise and Version. Intense and Version are synonyms of words to do with music but are slightly misleading. On the other hand, Noise is simple and to the point, which is exactly what I want.
Noise is going to be my magazine name.
